New Delhi 2nd July 2021
The Education Ministry released data on Thursday which showed that, only 22% of schools
in India had interns facilities in the last academic year in which schools were closed due to
the pandemic.
For the year 2019-20, among government schools, less than 12% had internet facilities
while less than 30% had functional computer facilities. As per the report among the major
states only Kerala, and other Union territories had more than 90% of schools with
computer facilities. This inadequacy of resources has negatively affected the digital
education options available to schools during the pandemic. The Unified District
Information System for education Plus (UDISE+) report collected data from more than 15
lakh schools across India. The experts have warned that the dropout rate at secondary which
was at 17% for the year 2019-20, would likely surge in the coming years due to the
pandemic.
This report shows that the alternative way of teaching children throng online medium had
been effective in some states thus creating a clear digital divide and thus affecting the future
of children in India.
